Today in our lecture we had special guest Nikhil Kulkarni ,alumnus of NITIE. Prof T.Prasad invited him and asked him to give a lecture on Business Communication.
Nikhil Kulkarni worked a decade in prestigious KPMG as a consultant.He left the organisation to pursue his dream of starting a startup. He founded Darwin Tech a travel technology B2B startup for leisure holiday market. He said he is going to expand the business to B2C market in the future.
He presented on the topic Consulting and Personal Branding
1)CONSULTING:-
In this he discussed what are the requirements to be a consultant .He told that MS Office is of prime importance .One must have the skills on Word, Excel and PowerPoint. In the job of consultant it is 80% communication, 5% research. Research is not that important for a consultant. One should know the shortcuts and formulas in Excel,PowerPoint,Word to create a good presentation.
He emphasized that if someone wants to make a carreer in Supply Chain ,he must have good knowledge of excel.
For Proposals: - PowerPoint or Word
For Reports: - PowerPoint or Word
For Executive Briefing :-PowerPoint
For DPR: -Word
For Work Papers: -Excel or Word
He also mentioned to use hierarchial structure to organize our ideas and supporting evidence.We should follow IDFL and MECE techniques.
IDFL:-We should organize according to Ideas, Data ,Facts and Logic
MECE: Mutually Exclusive Collectively Exhaustive. This is one technique which is widely used in the consulting cases.

After that he discussed about Pyramid Principle.In which he discussed about the situation,complication,question and answer with the example of COVID-19

To make higher impact he gave advises like put pictures on right side and text on left side.Also added that one should put a quotation, or a question, video to engage the audience.
2)PERSONAL BRANDING: -

He said how number 7 has become a personal brand for Dhoni.
He gave his life example how personal branding helped him in his job. He has been writing blogs from 2004 and because of that he got many works.
He emphasized that in this era one must have blog, Facebook or twitter account or a you tube channel. He gave an example of Product Manager who has 5000 followers in twitter and all the followers were people related to her work.
Because of writing blogs he connected and networked with many people whom he didn't know personally.
He mentioned that there are some content in his blogs which is only the source of information in the internet.
He ended the lecture with example of Bimal Kartheek the founder of Trell who was able to raise $11.4 million who is also an alumnus of NITIE.
